Shelly and Jimmy were referred to me by one of my all-time favorite Seattle couples. They booked me to return to Washington for their wedding, but before the big day, we squeezed in a quick Seattle parking garage engagement session while I was in town for another wedding. Our schedules aligned for just one day — and, of course, it rained. But sometimes, my favorite photos come from the most unexpected weather.
Before their session, I texted back and forth with Shelly and encouraged her to bring a clear umbrella – my go-to rainy-day trick. If there’s a chance of rain on your wedding day or engagement session, definitely come prepared with one! Here’s why I always recommend clear over colorful:
It’s a small detail, but it makes a big impact on the final gallery.
Shelly suggested a parking garage, and I was so on board! I know I say this all the time, but I LOVE parking garage sessions. They’re a hidden gem of a location with quiet, open spaces where you can just play around and be yourselves – no crowds, no strangers gawking at your cuteness. The wide skyline views are always a win, and on rainy days, the built-in cover is a lifesaver. Such a cool, underrated spot!
We ended up on a great rooftop right in the heart of Lower Queen Anne, with glimpses of the Space Needle in the background.
Before moving to Fort Worth, I spent over a decade photographing love stories in the Pacific Northwest, so a little rain doesn’t throw me off. I loved that Shelly and Jimmy embraced the drizzle, too. It added a cozy, cinematic feel to the session that felt very Seattle.
Whether it’s the Texas sun or Seattle drizzle, it’s never about perfect weather – it’s about having fun and capturing something real.
